-
Zebu cattle are known to be one of the oldest
breeds of cattle in the world
-
It is possible they
existed as far back as 3000 B.C.
-
Thought to come from India, where they were known as Nadudana, or
small cattle
-
During the early 1900's, a few of these cattle were imported for
use in circuses and zoos.
-
Zebus are true miniatures; they are not bred down from larger
breeds. They are naturally small.
-
The first thing you notice about a
zebu is their hump.
-
Both cows and bulls have a hump, but
the male's hump is usually much bigger
-
Miniature Zebus are hearty and
disease resistant
-
They love hot
weather and will lay in full sun on the hottest days of the year.
-
On
windy or cold days they prefer to spend their time inside a shelter.
-
Because of their size, they are well
suited to a small farm. They require only 1/3 of what "regular
size" cattle need.
-
Miniature Zebu cattle are perfect to
gain an Agricultural Exemption on small acreages in some areas.
